ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to treat a specific type of foot fracture called a Zone 3 fracture of the fifth metatarsal, which is a bone in the foot that can suffer from stress fractures. The researchers want to find out if using a surgical method called osteosynthesis with an intramedullary screw (a type of internal fixation) helps patients recover faster and experience less pain when they start walking again compared to using a non-surgical method, such as wearing a walking boot.
To participate in the trial, potential volunteers should be between the ages of 65-74 or 23-740 years old and must have a confirmed Zone 3 fracture. However, individuals with certain conditions, like open fractures, severe nerve damage, or other injuries that could complicate treatment, will not be eligible. Participants can expect to receive care and follow-up at one of the study centers and will be part of an important effort to improve the understanding of the best treatment options for this type of fracture.
