ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether using special double-ring wound-edge protectors can help prevent infections at the surgery site after an open appendectomy, which is a common operation to remove the appendix due to acute appendicitis. The trial is currently looking for participants who are at least 15 years old and have been diagnosed with acute appendicitis. It includes patients who are treated with either the open appendectomy method with the wound-edge protector or laparoscopic appendectomy, regardless of their risk factors for infections, like obesity or diabetes.
Participants in this study can expect to receive standard care for their appendicitis, and their recovery will be monitored for at least 30 days after surgery to see if the wound-edge protectors make a difference in preventing infections. It’s important to note that patients who received antibiotics before surgery and those with issues unrelated to the appendix will not be included in the trial. This study aims to provide valuable information that could improve care for future patients undergoing this type of surgery.
