ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying how the BCG vaccine, which protects against tuberculosis, and the measles vaccine can improve health not just for children but also for their mothers. Researchers have found that when mothers receive these vaccines, their children may benefit more from them, increasing their overall protection against infections. The study will involve 2,400 women who will be given either the BCG vaccine, the measles vaccine, or a placebo (a harmless shot that does not contain the vaccine). Their children will also receive either an early measles vaccine or a placebo. The goal is to find out which combination of vaccinations offers the best protection against measles and boosts the immune health of both mothers and children.

To be eligible for this trial, women need to be of childbearing age, not pregnant, and HIV-negative. They should live in a specific study area and have given birth to a child who is at least 12 months old. Participants can expect regular check-ups, guidance on their health, and to help contribute to important research that may improve vaccination strategies in the future. This trial is significant as it will be the first to explore the effects of vaccinating mothers with live vaccines, potentially leading to better health outcomes for both mothers and their children in the long term.
