ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how obesity might affect a person’s thinking and memory after surgery. Researchers want to understand if inflammation in the fat tissue of obese patients could lead to confusion or cognitive issues after procedures like hip surgery or certain heart surgeries. They believe that the inflammation caused by excess fat may play a role in these problems.
To participate in this study, you need to be an adult who is scheduled for elective surgery, such as a hip replacement or heart surgery, and you should have a minimum score of 20 on a memory test called the MMSE, which checks for cognitive function. Participants will be closely monitored after surgery to see if they experience any cognitive difficulties. It's important to note that individuals with dementia or those undergoing emergency surgery will not be eligible for this trial. This research aims to improve our understanding of how obesity impacts recovery and cognitive health after surgery, which could lead to better care for patients in the future.
