ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different methods to improve the health of gum tissue around teeth and dental implants that lack a special type of tissue called keratinized tissue. The research is comparing the use of a Free Gingival Graft (FGG), which uses tissue taken from the patient’s own mouth, to a combination of a Strip Gingival Graft with Acellular Dermal Matrix (SGG+ADM), which uses both patient tissue and a special graft that is not from the patient. The goal is to see which technique works better for enhancing the quality of the gum tissue.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 18 years old, speak English, and be a patient at the UAB Dental School. You should have teeth or implants that are missing this keratinized tissue and have healthy neighboring teeth or implants. Participants will undergo a procedure to receive one of the two grafts and will be monitored to see how well their gum tissue improves. It’s important to know that smokers, those with certain health conditions, or those who have had previous gum surgery in the area will not be eligible for this trial.
