ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a structured exercise program designed for older adults (50 years and older) who are waiting for a living donor kidney transplant. The goal is to see if this exercise program can help improve physical activity and overall function for these patients, as many experience a decline in their ability to move and perform daily tasks after their transplant. The study will involve 72 patient-caregiver pairs, where some will participate in the exercise program with their caregiver's involvement, while others will follow standard care without the exercise program.
To be eligible for the trial, participants must be on dialysis (either hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) and have a specific score that indicates their physical function level. They also need to have access to a phone and the internet, and they must have a living donor lined up for their kidney transplant. Throughout the study, participants can expect to engage in a home-based exercise routine over eight weeks, and researchers will measure their physical performance and quality of life before and after the program, as well as three months after their transplant. This trial aims to provide valuable insights into how structured exercise can benefit older patients during their wait for a kidney transplant.
