ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at new ways to help reduce pain in newborns during a common procedure called a heel lance, which involves taking a small blood sample from their heel. Researchers want to see if methods like skin-to-skin contact with the mother and listening to recorded sounds of the mother's heartbeat are more effective than giving the baby sweet oral glucose, which is often used to ease pain. They will measure how well these methods work by looking at the babies’ pain levels and other health indicators like heart rate and breathing.
To participate in this study, babies need to be born between 32 and 42 weeks of gestation and must be in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Parents should also be able to read, write, and speak Finnish. However, babies who are older than 14 days, have certain serious health conditions, or have received pain relief medications recently will not be eligible. If your baby qualifies, you can expect to be involved in a study that uses gentle methods to help ease their pain, and you will be contributing to important research that could improve care for newborns in the future.
