ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how to predict which patients may be at risk of becoming dependent on opioids after undergoing surgery for joint pain, specifically knee or hip replacement surgeries. The goal is to use personalized medicine—tailoring care based on a patient's individual traits, such as genetics and gut health—to identify those at higher risk for opioid dependence. By doing this, doctors can provide early support and alternative treatments to help reduce the chances of long-term opioid use.
To be eligible for this study, participants should be adults aged 65 to 74 who are scheduled for a knee or hip arthroplasty (replacement surgery). However, individuals who cannot make their own healthcare decisions, those who refuse to participate, or those who have taken antibiotics in the last three months before surgery will not be allowed to join. If you choose to participate, you can expect to provide information about your health, which will help researchers learn more about how to tailor care to prevent opioid dependence after surgery.
