ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Microbiome and Malnutrition in Pregnancy," is focused on understanding how a mother's nutrition and the bacteria in her gut during pregnancy affect the health of her baby. Researchers are specifically looking at young pregnant women, aged 24 and younger, in the Toronto area because they are more at risk for not getting enough nutrients. The study will follow these women throughout their pregnancy and for a year after their baby is born, collecting samples and health information to see how a mother's diet and gut health may influence birth outcomes and the baby's growth.
To participate, women must be between 8 to 20 weeks pregnant and agree to the study procedures. Those who have taken antibiotics in the last three months or who are further along in their pregnancy are not eligible. Participants can expect to provide stool and blood samples, share details about their diet, and receive health assessments during the study. This research aims to help improve understanding of how nutrition and gut health can impact pregnancy and newborn development, ultimately leading to healthier outcomes for mothers and their babies.
