ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the differences between two surgical methods used for emergency colon surgery: the traditional open surgery and a newer, minimally invasive technique called laparoscopic surgery. The goal is to see which method leads to fewer complications after the surgery and better long-term health outcomes for patients with colorectal issues, including cancer.
To participate in this trial, patients must be between the ages of 65 and 74 and need emergency colon resection, which is a surgery to remove part of the colon. However, younger patients under 18, those who have had previous surgeries for the same issue, trauma cases, or individuals with certain conditions like acute pancreatitis cannot take part. Participants will be closely monitored during and after their surgery to track their recovery and any potential complications, helping researchers understand the best approach for future patients.
