ClinConnect Summary
The PREVENTION trial is studying how to prevent heart problems during a medical procedure called tracheal intubation, which is often needed for critically ill patients who have trouble breathing. Specifically, the trial is comparing the use of a medication called noradrenaline, given before intubation, to see if it can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular collapse, which is when the heart does not pump blood effectively. This trial is important because many critically ill patients experience serious drops in blood pressure during this procedure, which can be life-threatening.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and scheduled for tracheal intubation due to a critical illness. They should also be receiving sedation during the procedure. However, patients who are currently using certain medications, have very high or low blood pressure, or are in situations where intubation is urgently needed will not be included. Those who join the trial can expect to receive either noradrenaline or no additional medication, and their blood pressure and heart health will be closely monitored during and after the intubation process. This trial is currently recruiting participants, so it’s a good opportunity for eligible patients to contribute to important research that could improve care for others in similar situations.
