ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the changes in the intestinal wall of patients who have difficulty with bowel movements, known as defecation disorders. These disorders can cause significant problems for about 15% of people in Europe, especially affecting those over 65 years old. The trial aims to understand the reasons behind these difficulties by looking at samples taken during surgery. Researchers believe that inflammation may be causing changes in the nerve cells in the intestines, which could lead to new treatments that better address these symptoms.
To participate in this study, you must be over 18 years old, have an obstructive defecation disorder, and be scheduled for surgery. Unfortunately, if you do not have a defecation disorder, do not need surgery, or are unable to give consent, you won’t be eligible. If you join, you can expect to undergo surgery where tissue samples will be collected for research. The findings from this study could help improve the quality of life for many people suffering from these disorders in the future.
