ClinConnect Summary
The Strengths-based Linkage to Alcohol Care (SLAC) trial is a study designed to help Veterans who have dangerous drinking habits and may also be dealing with mental health issues like PTSD or depression. The goal is to see if a new program called SLAC, which focuses on the strengths of each individual, can effectively connect these Veterans to appropriate alcohol care services. Participants will be randomly divided into two groups: one group will receive the SLAC program along with regular care, while the other group will only get regular care.
To be eligible for this study, participants need to be Veterans who have been identified as hazardous drinkers, meaning they scored above a certain level on a drinking questionnaire. They should also have experienced symptoms of PTSD or depression in the last year. Participants must have a reliable way to communicate, like a phone, and should not have received certain treatments for substance use in the past three months. Throughout the study, participants can expect to provide feedback on their experience and whether they feel the program helps them connect to care and improve their drinking and mental health. This trial is currently recruiting participants and aims to gather important information to determine if a larger study is needed in the future.
