ClinConnect Summary
The HA35 Acute Alcohol Study is a clinical trial designed to learn more about how alcohol affects healthy individuals. If you are a healthy adult who drinks less than 7 alcoholic beverages per week (if you're a woman) or less than 14 (if you're a man), you might be eligible to participate. However, if you have certain health conditions, like uncontrolled diabetes, liver disease, or a history of alcohol use disorder, this study may not be right for you.
During the trial, participants will take either a sugar capsule or a treatment capsule for three days and then come in for a visit on the fourth day. This visit will include a medical exam, blood tests, and some questionnaires, along with measurements of body composition. Participants will also drink a sugar cocktail to check how well their gut is functioning and will take part in a special alcohol test, which involves two small muscle samples being taken. The entire visit will last about 3 to 4 hours, and you'll need a designated driver to take you home afterward. On the fifth day, you'll return to drop off a urine sample collected over 24 hours. This study is currently recruiting participants, and your involvement could help advance our understanding of alcohol's effects on the body.
