ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring a group therapy program designed to help teenagers who are experiencing emotional distress, especially after the traumatic events of the March 15, 2019, mosque shootings in Christchurch. It aims to support young people dealing with anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges by using a treatment approach that respects Islamic principles while addressing a variety of emotional issues. The study will gather information on how well this program works in improving the wellbeing of participants.
To take part in the study, teenagers must be enrolled in high school, speak English, and be willing to join a group that may incorporate elements of the Muslim faith, although they do not need to identify as Muslim. Participants will have one individual session to learn about the study and give consent, followed by six group sessions. Throughout the trial, their emotional wellbeing will be monitored, and they will also check in on their parents' wellbeing. The goal is to see if this group approach can help both the teens and their families cope better with the aftermath of the traumatic event.
