ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at two different medications, EXPAREL and lidocaine, to see which one works better as a local anesthetic for patients undergoing a procedure called pleuroscopy. This procedure involves taking samples from the pleura (the lining around the lungs) and placing a tube to help drain fluid that can build up due to a condition called malignant pleural neoplasm, which is a type of cancer affecting the pleura. The goal of the study is to find out which medication can help make patients feel more comfortable during and after the procedure.
To participate in this trial, you need to be at least 18 years old and referred for pleuroscopy with biopsies and the placement of a tube for draining fluid. However, certain factors could exclude you, such as having an allergy to either medication, being pregnant, or having serious liver issues. If you decide to join, you can expect to receive one of the two medications before your procedure to help minimize discomfort. The trial is currently recruiting participants, and it’s a good opportunity to contribute to research that may improve care for others facing similar health challenges.
