ClinConnect Summary
The Integrated Hyperglycaemia Incentivised Postnatal Surveillance Study (I-HIPS) is a clinical trial that aims to help women who have had gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) after giving birth. The study focuses on encouraging these women to adopt healthier lifestyles by using a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor and an exercise tracker. By tracking their blood sugar levels and physical activity, the goal is to motivate them to make positive changes in their diet and exercise habits. This may help reduce their risk of developing Type II Diabetes and improve their overall heart health over the long term.
To participate in this study, women must have been diagnosed with GDM during pregnancy but had normal blood sugar levels six weeks after giving birth. They should also have a body mass index (BMI) between 20 and 40 and be able to walk moderately. Participants will wear the CGM sensor for two weeks and will be followed for up to four years to see how these lifestyle changes affect their health. It's important to note that women with serious skin conditions or other chronic diseases may not be eligible to join the study. By participating, women can contribute to important research that may lead to better health outcomes for themselves and others in the future.
