ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how support from fathers can help improve breastfeeding among new mothers. The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding as the best way to feed infants, as it promotes healthy growth and reduces the risk of serious health issues. In this study, researchers will provide both mothers and fathers with weekly phone calls to discuss breastfeeding for the first month after the baby is born. They aim to see if this support leads to more mothers exclusively breastfeeding their babies for a longer time, reduces feelings of depression after childbirth, and strengthens the bond between parents and their child.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be at least 18 years old, have recently given birth to a single healthy baby, and be able to speak and read Chinese. Unfortunately, those with psychiatric illnesses are not eligible. Participants can expect four phone sessions lasting about 20-30 minutes each, where they will receive guidance and support tailored to their needs. This research could lead to new and culturally sensitive ways to encourage breastfeeding and support parental mental health, particularly in Chinese communities.
