ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called "Accelerated Treatment of Endocarditis," is looking at whether patients with a heart infection, known as endocarditis, can safely receive shorter courses of antibiotic treatment based on how they respond to the medication. Currently, patients usually need to be treated with intravenous antibiotics for 4 to 6 weeks, which can lead to long hospital stays, increased risks, and high healthcare costs. This study will involve about 475 patients and aims to personalize treatment by using specific health data collected from each patient, helping to determine the best duration of antibiotic therapy for them.
To be eligible for this trial, you must be at least 18 years old and have a left-sided infectious endocarditis caused by specific bacteria (like Streptococci or Staphylococcus aureus), and you should not have been on antibiotics for more than 14 days. Participants can expect to be part of a research study that evaluates their individual treatment response, which might lead to a more tailored and potentially shorter treatment plan. It’s important to note that the trial is focused on ensuring safety and effectiveness while potentially reducing the burden of long hospital stays.
