ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to recognize and measure dyspnea, which is the feeling of not being able to breathe well, in patients who are on invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). Dyspnea is a common and very distressing symptom for these patients, and it can be hard to assess because many are unable to communicate their discomfort due to sedation or medical equipment. Researchers are testing a special camera that uses infrared thermal imaging to continuously monitor signs of dyspnea, such as heart rate, breathing patterns, and facial expressions. The goal is to see if this technology can help detect dyspnea more accurately and improve comfort for patients while they are undergoing a spontaneous breathing trial.
To participate in this study, patients must be adults (18 years or older) who have been on IMV for more than 48 hours and are ready to try breathing without the ventilator for a short period. Patients, or their representatives, must also agree to take part in the study. During the trial, participants will have their breathing and other signs observed using the camera while they attempt to breathe on their own. This innovative approach aims to enhance understanding of patients' experiences in the ICU and ultimately improve their care and comfort.
