ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new way to help prevent cholera and other diarrheal diseases in households affected by severe diarrhea in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. The researchers want to create a targeted program focused on improving water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. They will involve the community and gather information to ensure the program is effective. They will then test this program with 2,320 people from 580 households to see if it helps reduce the spread of diarrhea and encourages better hygiene habits.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be living with someone who has severe diarrhea (defined as having three or more loose stools in a day) and must not have running water in their home. Additionally, they need to plan to stay in Bukavu for the next year and have a child under five years old living with them, along with a working mobile phone. Everyone is welcome to join regardless of age, gender, or background, as long as they meet the inclusion criteria. Participants can expect to learn about and practice better hygiene methods, which could help protect their families from diseases like cholera.
