ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how virtual reality (VR) training can help surgeons prepare for a common surgery called laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which is the removal of the gallbladder. Even though this surgery is generally safe, there can be complications, like injuries to important bile ducts, often caused by misunderstandings of the anatomy. By using advanced imaging techniques, like magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), the study aims to see if VR training can improve surgeons' understanding of the area before they operate, potentially leading to better outcomes during the actual procedure.
To participate in this trial, individuals need to be referred for elective gallbladder surgery and have certain conditions, such as symptomatic gallstones or chronic inflammation of the gallbladder. Participants should also have high-quality MRCP images available. However, those with severe health issues or certain previous surgeries, among other criteria, may not be eligible. If you join the trial, you can expect to receive VR training to help prepare you and your surgeon for the operation, which could contribute to a safer surgical experience.
