ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how often patients experience chronic pain after having a thoracotomy, which is a type of surgery involving an incision in the chest. While it's known that many patients have severe pain right after the surgery, the goal of this study is to see how many people continue to have pain months later, specifically at 3 and 6 months after the operation. The researchers want to understand what factors might influence this persistent pain, as it can affect recovery and quality of life.
To participate in this trial, individuals should be between 18 and 65 years old, generally healthy (with a physical status rating of I to III), and have a body mass index (BMI) between 18 and 35. The study is looking for patients who are scheduled for elective thoracotomy surgery, meaning that the surgery is planned in advance rather than done in an emergency. Those with advanced cancer, a history of chronic pain medication use, prior thoracic surgeries, or emergency surgeries will not be eligible. Participants can expect to be monitored for their pain levels during follow-up visits after the surgery, contributing to important insights into managing postoperative pain.
