ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on understanding how certain markers in the blood can help predict and manage complications that may arise after high-risk surgeries, such as heart, lung, or gastrointestinal operations. The goal is to find out how these markers differ in patients who experience complications compared to those who do not. By collecting blood samples and other health information from nearly 5,000 patients, researchers aim to create a model that can help doctors identify patients at higher risk for serious issues like infections, kidney problems, or even death within 30 days of surgery.
To be eligible for this study, patients must be undergoing specific types of surgeries, such as cardiac, colorectal, vascular, or lung procedures, and must be between 65 and 74 years old. Participants will have five blood samples taken during their routine lab tests, so there are minimal additional burdens. There are no direct risks or benefits for those involved in the study, but the information gathered could ultimately help improve care and outcomes for future surgical patients.
