ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating two different methods of pain management for patients undergoing thoracic surgery, which involves operations on the chest area. The study aims to find out whether using a thoracic epidural (a type of anesthesia placed in the back) or a paravertebral block (an injection near the spine) is better for managing pain during and after surgery.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be planning to have elective thoracic surgery and be in good health according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists' classifications (which rates overall health from 1 to 3). They’ll need to provide written consent to join. However, people who are pregnant, have a high body mass index (BMI over 30), heart rhythm issues, bleeding problems, chronic pain, or issues with opioid use will not be eligible for this study. Participants can expect to receive one of the two pain management techniques and will be monitored for their pain levels and recovery throughout the process. This research could help improve pain management strategies for future patients undergoing similar surgeries.
