ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at whether a specific treatment called ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion can help improve consciousness in patients who have a disorder of consciousness, such as being in a vegetative or minimally conscious state, after a serious brain injury or stroke that has caused a buildup of fluid in the brain (known as hydrocephalus). The researchers want to see if this treatment can make a difference in how aware these patients are.
To be part of this study, participants must be adults who have had a brain injury and are experiencing a persistent disorder of consciousness along with hydrocephalus that needs treatment. Unfortunately, pregnant individuals cannot participate, and participants must be able to give their consent. Those who join the trial will have regular check-ups over three months, which will include various tests to monitor their health and brain activity. This study is currently recruiting participants of all genders aged between 18 to 80 years.
