ClinConnect Summary
The Norwegian Stoma Trial is a research study looking at how different types of stomas (which are openings created for waste to leave the body) are used during surgery for rectal cancer. The main goal is to see how these stomas affect surgical complications, the quality of life after surgery, and the length of hospital stays for patients. This study is currently recruiting participants aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma, a type of cancer that begins in the rectum.
If you or a loved one is interested in participating, it's important to know that you will need to provide informed consent and have a tumor located within 15 centimeters of the anal opening. However, people with advanced cancer that requires more extensive surgery or those with other serious health issues may not be eligible. Participants can expect to be closely monitored during the trial, and the findings could help improve care for future patients undergoing similar surgeries.
