ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Telephone Peer Support to Prevent Depression Among Fathers," is exploring whether support from other fathers over the phone can help new dads feel less stressed and depressed after their baby is born. The study involves 40 expectant fathers in Sweden who are experiencing some signs of depression shortly after their child's birth. These fathers will be divided into two groups: one group will receive phone support from trained volunteer fathers who have been through similar experiences, while the other group will receive standard parental support. Researchers will check in with the fathers four months later to see how they are doing.
To participate in this study, fathers need to be between 18 and 49 years old, have a baby that is less than two weeks old, and have a score of more than ten on a depression screening tool called the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale. It's important to note that fathers who are currently taking medication for depression or other mental health issues will not be able to join. This study aims to find new ways to support fathers' mental health, which can ultimately lead to better outcomes for their children as well.
