ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how rectal surgery affects bowel and urinary functions in patients who are having a specific type of surgery called rectal resection with total mesorectal excision. The goal is to understand how these functions change before and after the surgery and to identify factors that might lead to problems with bladder control or bowel function afterwards. By learning more about these risk factors, doctors hope to improve treatment plans for patients with rectal cancer and help them recover better in the long run.
To participate in this study, you would need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and scheduled for rectal resection surgery. However, if you have had previous surgery to remove your rectal sphincter or have a stoma (a surgical opening) that has lasted for over a year, you wouldn’t be eligible to join. If you decide to take part, you can expect to be closely monitored around your surgery to gather important information about your recovery and any changes in your bowel and bladder functions. This research could lead to better care and support for patients like you in the future.
