ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether using lower levels of oxygen during anesthesia can help improve oxygen levels and lung function after major abdominal surgery, particularly for patients with cancer. Researchers will involve 200 patients who are set to undergo this type of surgery, dividing them into two groups: one will receive a carefully controlled low oxygen concentration during and after anesthesia, while the other will receive a fixed higher level of oxygen. The main goal is to see how well oxygen levels in the blood respond to these different oxygen levels.
To participate in the trial, patients need to be scheduled for major abdominal cancer surgery that lasts more than two hours and be in good health according to specific anesthesia safety classifications. However, patients who are likely to have difficulty with intubation (a procedure to help them breathe during surgery) or those who do not wish to participate will not be eligible. If you or a family member are considering this trial, you can expect close monitoring of oxygen levels and lung function throughout the process, which could help improve recovery after surgery.
