ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying why patients with chronic kidney disease who are on hemodialysis (a type of kidney treatment) have a higher risk of severe infections and complications, particularly from a bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus. The researchers believe that the process of hemodialysis may weaken the immune system and make it harder for patients to fight off infections. They will collect blood samples from participants to look at levels of inflammation and blood clotting before and after dialysis, comparing these results to those from healthy individuals and other patients with kidney issues.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be over 18 years old and have chronic kidney disease. This includes those currently undergoing hemodialysis, those with kidney disease not on dialysis, and those using another treatment called peritoneal dialysis. The study is currently recruiting participants, and if you join, you can expect to provide blood samples and help researchers learn more about how to better protect patients like you from infections during treatment.
