ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a new treatment approach for people with a condition called myogenic temporomandibular disorders (TMD), which causes pain in the jaw and difficulties with jaw movement. Researchers believe that combining manual therapy, which involves hands-on techniques to relieve pain and improve function, with a method called vagus nerve stimulation may provide better results than using manual therapy alone. The vagus nerve is important for many bodily functions and can be stimulated easily through deep breathing. The goal is to see if this combined treatment can help reduce pain, improve how well the jaw moves, and enhance the overall quality of life for patients with TMD.

To take part in this study, participants should be between 65 and 74 years old, have been diagnosed with myogenic pain, and have experienced pain in the last month. They should also have difficulty moving their jaw due to this pain and not have received physiotherapy in the last three weeks. During the trial, participants will attend four physiotherapy sessions over a month and will be taught exercises to do at home. While all participants will receive the same manual therapy, only those in the experimental group will also experience the vagus nerve stimulation. Throughout the study, researchers will check in with participants to evaluate their pain levels, jaw function, and overall well-being.
