ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how to better measure breathing effort in patients who are being taken off invasive mechanical ventilation (a machine that helps them breathe). The goal is to find a simple and non-invasive way to assess how much effort patients need to breathe after their breathing tube is removed. This is important because around 20% of patients may struggle and need to be put back on the machine, which can lead to longer hospital stays and increased risks. The researchers are exploring if measuring nasal pressure (the pressure at the nostrils) can accurately show how hard patients are working to breathe, which could help doctors identify those at higher risk of needing more support.
To be eligible for this trial, participants should be adults aged 18 and older who are candidates for having their breathing tube removed. However, individuals with certain conditions like neuromuscular diseases or a lower level of consciousness will not be included. If someone participates, they can expect to have their nasal pressure measured to help understand their breathing effort better, contributing to safer and more effective care for patients in similar situations.
