ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating two different ways of providing hydration to patients with severe chronic kidney disease (CKD) who are scheduled to undergo a specific type of imaging test called a contrast-enhanced CT scan. The main goal is to see if drinking water (oral hydration) is as effective as receiving fluids through an IV (intravenous hydration) in preventing kidney injury that can occur after the procedure. This is important because patients with severe CKD are at a higher risk of developing complications after receiving contrast dye during the scan.
To participate in this study, individuals must be at least 18 years old, have a specific kidney function level (eGFR less than 30), and be scheduled for the contrast-enhanced CT scan. Participants will need to give their consent to join the trial. The study aims to find out if drinking water is just as good as IV fluids for protecting the kidneys, and it will also look at specific markers in the blood and urine that could indicate kidney issues early on. This research could help improve care for patients with severe kidney disease.
