ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying whether placing a special tube called a pancreatic stent before surgery can help prevent a common complication known as postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) in patients undergoing a procedure called distal pancreatectomy. This surgery is typically performed to remove part of the pancreas that may be affected by disease. The idea is that by using the stent, the flow of pancreatic juice can be redirected, reducing the chances of leakage from the surgical site.
To participate in this trial, you need to be over 18 years old and scheduled for an elective distal pancreatectomy due to a specific pancreatic issue. However, if you have certain conditions, such as needing emergency surgery, having a narrowing of the pancreatic duct, or a history of severe pancreatitis, you won’t be eligible. Participants in the study will be randomly assigned to either receive the stent or not, and the researchers will closely monitor their outcomes after the surgery. This research could potentially lead to better recovery experiences for patients undergoing this type of surgery.
