ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the Study of Postoperative Respiratory Complications in Children With Obstructive Sleep Apnea (PORC), is looking at the risks of breathing problems that can occur in children after they have surgery to remove their tonsils and adenoids (known as adenotonsillectomy). This type of surgery is often done to treat children with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, a condition that causes breathing difficulties during sleep. The study aims to understand how common these complications are and how they can be monitored and managed better, especially since there is currently no agreement on the best practices for caring for these children after surgery.
To be eligible for this trial, children must be scheduled for an adenotonsillectomy to treat their Obstructive Sleep Apnea. However, if they are having any other type of surgery or if they haven’t had a sleep study (polysomnography) within the last year, they won't be able to participate. Families who join the study can expect to help researchers learn more about how to keep children safe after surgery and improve care for those with sleep-related breathing problems. The trial is currently recruiting participants, and it welcomes children of all genders between the ages of 1 and 18.
