ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating how the virus that causes COVID-19 behaves in patients who are critically ill and undergoing dental procedures in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The researchers want to understand if dental treatments that involve bleeding, such as tooth extractions or deep cleaning of the gums, affect the level of the virus in the blood. They hope to find out if there are certain patterns in the way the virus replicates that could lead to worse health outcomes for these patients after the dental work is done.
To participate in this study, individuals must be between 16 and 90 years old and need specific dental treatments like subgingival scaling or tooth extractions. However, patients who cannot undergo a clinical examination or have open dental procedures will not be eligible. Those who join the trial can expect to provide blood samples for testing and will help researchers learn more about the risks of performing dental work on patients with COVID-19 in serious condition. This information could be crucial for safely managing dental care in critically ill patients.
