ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how weight loss from bariatric surgery affects people with obesity and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Specifically, it's studying whether changes in body measurements—like neck size and waist-to-hip ratio—are better indicators of OSA improvement than just changes in body mass index (BMI), which is a common measure of obesity. Participants will be evaluated at 2, 6, and 12 months after their surgery to see how these changes relate to their sleep apnea symptoms.
To be eligible for this study, participants should be adults aged 18 to 75 who are planning to have bariatric surgery because of severe obesity (a BMI of 35 or higher) and have been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea requiring a Continuous Positive Air Pressure (CPAP) machine for treatment. This trial is currently looking for volunteers, and anyone who is interested can expect to have their health monitored closely for a year to help determine how effective the surgery is in improving their sleep apnea along with their weight loss.
