ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how effective gastric ultrasound is in checking the stomach contents of children who have experienced trauma and may need urgent surgery. The goal is to see if this method can accurately identify kids who have a lot of fluid in their stomach (more than 0.8 mL per kilogram of body weight) and high-risk contents, like solid food or thick liquids. Knowing this information can help doctors manage anesthesia safely and reduce the risk of aspiration, which is when stomach contents enter the lungs during surgery.
To be eligible for the study, children aged 0 to 17 who have a traumatic injury and require urgent surgery can participate. However, children with certain stomach conditions, like previous surgeries that affect the stomach's normal function, will not be included. If your child joins the trial, they will undergo a gastric ultrasound before surgery to help assess their stomach contents. This research could lead to better care for pediatric trauma patients in the future.
