ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of acupuncture and self-acupressure on hot flashes experienced by women who have undergone a specific surgery called risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO). This surgery is often recommended for women who carry BRCA 1 and 2 genes to lower their risk of breast and ovarian cancer. After this surgery, many women face difficult symptoms like hot flashes, which can disrupt their daily lives. The trial aims to see if acupuncture, with or without the addition of self-acupressure that participants can do at home, can help reduce these hot flashes and improve overall quality of life.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be female, at least 25 years old, and have experienced at least five hot flashes per day after their RRSO surgery. The study will include 200 patients who will receive eight weekly acupuncture treatments. Afterward, they will be randomly assigned to either continue with self-acupressure at home or not. Researchers will evaluate how well the treatments work by using questionnaires that track hot flash symptoms and quality of life at the beginning of the study, after the treatments, and 16 weeks later. The safety of the treatments will also be monitored throughout the trial. This study is still in the planning stages and is not yet recruiting participants.
