ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the Cognitive Remediation Intervention to Prepare for Transition of Care, is focused on helping young people with sickle cell disease improve their thinking and coping skills as they transition to adult healthcare. The study is testing a new program delivered through telehealth, which means participants can join sessions online from home. The aim is to see if this program can help adolescents aged 10 to 18 manage their health better and feel more confident as they move into adult medical care.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be diagnosed with sickle cell disease and currently receiving care at Children's of Alabama Hospital. They should be between the ages of 10 and 18 and able to speak English. However, individuals with a history of seizures, stroke, or certain developmental disabilities, as well as those who cannot participate in an MRI scan, cannot join. If selected, participants will engage in activities designed to enhance their thinking and coping skills, which may help them better manage their condition in the future.
