ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at two different types of physical therapy to help children with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a condition that affects muscle strength and movement. The study will compare traditional physical therapy with hippotherapy, which involves therapy sessions on horseback. Children in the study will participate in therapy for six days, with sessions lasting 30 minutes for traditional therapy and 15 minutes for hippotherapy, twice a day. Researchers will measure how well each therapy works using special technology and tests to track movement and muscle activity.
To be eligible for this trial, children must have a clinical diagnosis of SMA (types I, II, or III) and have stable health without any major illnesses. They should not have changed their medication in the past six months and must not have any serious issues like hip subluxation or allergies to horses. Additionally, participants should feel comfortable around horses, as fear could be a barrier to the hippotherapy sessions. This study aims to find out which therapy is more effective while also ensuring that the children do not experience too much muscle fatigue during their sessions.
