ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a technique called Electrical Impedance Tomography (EIT) to monitor how well air is distributed in the lungs of children who are experiencing acute respiratory failure. This is important because understanding how air moves in the lungs can help doctors adjust treatments, like changing ventilator settings or the child's position, to improve breathing. The goal is to gather more information about how ventilation works in children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and how different care approaches affect their recovery.
Children under 18 years old who are admitted to the PICU with acute respiratory failure may be eligible to participate in this study, as long as their parents or legal guardians agree. Additionally, children undergoing general anesthesia and receiving mechanical ventilation may also be included. Participants will be monitored using the EIT technique, which is safe and non-invasive, meaning it doesn't hurt and is done at the bedside. Parents can expect to be involved in the process and will have the opportunity to learn more about how treatments are affecting their child's breathing.
