ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how many people experience chronic pain after having heart surgery that involves a sternotomy, which is a procedure where the breastbone is cut open. Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts for more than two months after surgery and can affect a person’s quality of life, including their sleep and ability to work. The study aims to find out how common this type of pain is and what factors might contribute to it. Researchers hope to gather information from patients three months after their surgery to better understand these issues.
To participate in this trial, individuals need to be between 18 and 80 years old, and in good health according to certain medical guidelines. They should be scheduled for elective sternotomy surgery, meaning it's planned in advance rather than being done in an emergency. However, people with a history of ongoing pain treatment, those who have had sternotomy surgery before, or those who need emergency surgery won’t be eligible. Participants can expect to share their experiences of pain after their surgery, which will help improve care for future patients.
