ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying the effects of a treatment called posterior tibial nerve stimulation (PTNS) on patients who have undergone surgery for rectal cancer. Specifically, the researchers want to find out if this non-invasive treatment can help reduce problems related to bowel function, known as Low Anterior Resection Syndrome (LARS), after surgery. LARS can affect many people who have had surgery to remove part of their rectum, leading to issues like difficulty with bowel control. By starting PTNS shortly after surgery, the hope is to improve patients' quality of life and lessen the time they experience these challenging symptoms.

To participate in the study, candidates must be adults over 18 years old who are scheduled for elective surgery to remove part of the rectum. They should not have any severe mental disabilities or be undergoing palliative surgery, and their surgical site should be healing properly. Participants can expect to receive PTNS as part of their recovery process, which involves a simple and safe procedure that aims to prevent LARS symptoms from developing. This trial is currently recruiting participants at the Hospital Álvaro Cunqueiro in Vigo, and it offers a promising approach to improving recovery after rectal surgery.
