ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at a new program designed to help reduce anxiety and depression in Native American children aged 8 to 12. Researchers want to create a version of a prevention program called COMPASS for Courage that is tailored to fit the cultural traditions and values of Native American communities. The goal is to see if this program can be successfully used in schools on a Northern Plains tribal reservation, and how well children and their families accept it. The researchers believe that by incorporating cultural elements, the program will be more enjoyable and effective for the youth.

To participate in this study, children must be between 8 and 12 years old, attend a school that serves the tribe, and live on the reservation. Parents, teachers, and mental health specialists working with the community are also eligible to take part in the research. Participants can expect to engage in the adapted program over a couple of years, which will include activities aimed at improving their emotional well-being. The researchers will gather feedback from the children, their families, and teachers to understand how helpful and acceptable the program is, hoping to demonstrate that it can effectively reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression among the youth in the community.
