ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of adding a specific type of pain relief, called a distal median nerve block, to local anaesthesia during surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition where pressure on a nerve in the wrist causes pain, numbness, and weakness in the hand. The researchers want to find out if the additional nerve block helps reduce pain during and after the surgery compared to using local anaesthesia alone.
To participate in the trial, you need to be over 17 years old and have a confirmed diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome based on nerve tests. Unfortunately, if you have had previous surgery for CTS, certain nerve problems, allergies to the medications used in the trial, severe cognitive impairment, or if you are pregnant, you won't be eligible to take part. Participants will be randomly assigned to either receive just local anaesthesia or local anaesthesia along with the nerve block. Throughout the trial, your pain levels will be monitored, and you’ll be asked about your experiences during and after the procedure. This study aims to provide valuable information that could improve pain management for people undergoing carpal tunnel surgery.
