ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Adipose Cellular Kinetics of Lipedema," is studying a condition called lipedema, which causes abnormal fat build-up, swelling, and pain, particularly in the legs and arms. Many women with lipedema are misdiagnosed as simply being overweight, making it important to understand how this condition develops. The researchers aim to learn more about how fat cells form and how fat is stored in women with lipedema compared to those without the condition and those with traditional obesity. To do this, they will use a special water that helps track changes in fat tissue over an 8-week period.
Women aged 18 to 50 with a body mass index (BMI) of 50 or lower and a clinical diagnosis of lipedema may be eligible to participate. Participants will be asked to drink the special water and will undergo imaging tests to measure their fat tissue. It's important to note that women with certain medical conditions or who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have recently undergone specific surgeries may not qualify for the study. By taking part, participants can help researchers uncover new insights into lipedema, which could lead to better treatments in the future.
