ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new approach to help young adults who drink heavily and have experienced interpersonal trauma, like relationship problems or loss. The researchers want to see if a special kind of support, which includes coping strategies for dealing with trauma and guidance from peer coaches, can help these individuals reduce their alcohol use more effectively than standard treatments. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: one receiving the new support program, another getting a regular treatment, and a third group that will only receive assessments without any treatment. The trial will follow participants for three and six months after the intervention to assess its effectiveness.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be between 18 and 25 years old, enrolled in college, able to speak and understand English, and have access to a cell phone. They should also have a history of trauma and drink heavily. However, individuals currently receiving therapy or medication for substance use will not be included. Participants can expect to learn helpful strategies for managing their drinking and trauma, along with regular check-ins from peer coaches to support their progress throughout the trial.
