ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how the body’s autonomic nervous system, which controls automatic functions like heart rate, affects blood pressure in elderly patients during surgery. Specifically, it looks at how well this system works before surgery and whether it contributes to a drop in blood pressure after anesthesia is given, a condition called post-induction hypotension (PIH). The trial is focused on older patients, aged 65 and up, who are scheduled for non-cardiac surgeries that require general anesthesia.
To participate, patients should be generally healthy (classified as ASA Class I-III) and able to understand the study details. Those with certain medical conditions, such as severe vascular disease or Parkinson’s disease, won't be eligible. Participants will have their heart rate and blood pressure monitored before and during surgery to help researchers understand the relationship between autonomic function and blood pressure drops. This study aims to improve care for elderly patients during surgery by identifying factors that might lead to complications.
